Course Summary

Level 1 of the Lay Leader Training is a 10-month process undertaken with a non-geographical cohort, a facilitator, homework assignments and a mentor from your local church. Church commissioned pastors are lay leaders who are serving their church by leading micro- expressions of church (small groups, youth groups, missional communities, etc.) and who wish to have a deeper level of training in the 10 Core Competencies.

Level 2 of the Lay Leader Training is designed for the lay leader who wants to serve in their presbytery as a solo pastor, pulpit supply, or church planter. This training requires the student to complete the Level 1 Cohort, take 12 seminary courses through the Flourish Institute of Theology, complete a psychological assessment, and complete an exegesis paper and Theological Integration Interview successfully.

Course Information

WHO:  Any lay leader or emerging leader who wants to be better equipped to serve, who desires a deeper connection with Jesus and desires to grow.

WHAT: Level 1 includes a 10-month online training experience in ECO’s 10 Core Leadership Competencies with a community of leaders from other ECO Churches facilitated by an experienced Pastor. Level 2 includes 12 seminary courses, a psychological assessment, exegetical work, and a final interview.

WHERE:  From the comfort of your own home!

WHEN:  The Level 1 Cohort meets twice a month via Zoom (each cohort picks a time that works for them) with videos and homework assignments between class meetings. Level 2 work is done at your own pace!

WHY: Because God wants you to become the best leader you can be! We deeply value lay leadership development as being foundational. We seek to undo the clergy-centered ecclesiology that has plagued the church for too long and truly reclaim the biblical vision of the priesthood of all believers. We have designed the courses in such a way that are affordable, flexible, and allows the students to stay in their current context while they receive further practical and theological training for ministry.

Lee Dixon

Elder

It really gave me an opportunity to dive deeper into the mission field that exists outside the walls of the church, and the people that I relate to and how best to relate to them.

Joy Sturgis

Deacon

I don't think a church can put enough value on a common language, common beliefs, and common understandings for their leadership. So that those people that are training can also live into the lives within whom they have a relationship.

Brian Stewart

Associate Pastor

Leading a CLP cohort over the past year has been one of the highlights of my ministry for the past 25 years.
